RIMES CONVENES 8TH COUNCIL MEETING FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF ITS 2016-2020 MASTER PLAN
The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES), mandated for capacity building of its Member States and Collaborating Countries, convened its 8th Council Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on 1-2 July 2016. The 8th RIMES Council Meeting focused on:
- implementation of the RIMES Master Plan 2016-2020
- sharing of experiences and good practices, for replication and way forward
RIMES has currently 33 Member States and Collaborating Countries. The Government of India is the Chair of the RIMES Council. The Government of Maldives is among RIMES’ founding Members, and has been serving as RIMES Secretariat since 2009. Mr. Abdullahi Majeed, Minister of State for Environment and Energy of the Republic of Maldives, is the Head of RIMES Secretariat; Mr. Ali Shareef, Deputy Director General of Maldives Meteorological Services is the Focal Point for RIMES Secretariat. As key officials to the RIMES Council, Mr. Abdullahi Majeed and Mr. Ali Shareef were present and delivered key roles in the 2-day 8th RIMES Council Meeting.
